I have some very nice heritage delawares and an outstanding coronation sussex roo.How hard would it be to make lavender or coronation delawares? Don't hate me delaware lovers it is just mostly for my farm. The biggest problem I see is getting the lavender barring in stead of the sussex solid tail and neck feathers.I see this issue a lot in delawares which are probably crossed with columbians. Tell me what issues I would most likely run into.

JamesA, this Delaware lover won't hate you - I am curious myself. I think the Coronation Sussex are beautiful, and it would be an interesting project. Besides, if it works, I am close enough to come get some!!!

Should not take more than a few generations to get the coronation plumage in a delaware.

Cross 1

Sussex roo over delaware hen = barred males and non-barred females all will have white skin.

Cross #2

Cross barred male offspring with non barred female offspring= 1/2 barred offspring and 1/2 non-barred offspring, one in four will be lavender and one in four will have yellow skin.

1 in 32 will be the bird you want.

What you do next depends on the characteristics found in the chicks you hatch.

Tadkerson - will he want white skin or yellow skin? Sorry if that is a dumb question, but I don't know anything about this!

The first two crosses are pretty easy but the third cross I will hopefully have a barred lavender male and female with yellow skin and hopefully yellow legs. Will these breed pretty true?
