Goofy Nest Box Behavior

Are my hens just weird? I have filled their nest boxes with pine shavings and straw. I've tried to make them comfy cozy for the girls, yet every time I go collect our egg (they just started laying) all of the fluff has been pushed to the side and they're laying on the wood.

Mine use to do this also !!! How thick are the shavings ?? It's just them making there nest !!

I have straw and pine in the boxes, it's probably an inch to 2 inches deep (just depnds on how much they kick out).

Mine stoped when I added extra shavings, about 4 inches thick !! Try adding another inch or so.

I have given up putting nesting materals in my nests. Could put a shovel full in each nest and the next day it would be on the ground.
