I have a goose that is about 15 weeks old, and something got ahold of him last night, and it's wing is broken. I have wrapped the wing close to it's body. Is that the only thing that I can do for him?

If you wrapped the wing in the proper position with the bones correctly placed, that is all you can do. Good job!

I recommend separating him and loosening and rewrapping every other day or so to make sure it is not too tight. They are still growing at that age.

Thanks a bunch. A friend came over and we put an antiseptic wash on the wounds, and rewrapped his wing in the proper position. I am going to bring him into the bird hospital in my garage tonight just to make sure what ever got him last night can't get him tonight. He has no defense with just one wing.

I also have a goose with a broken wing. it happened this morning. Is there I can give him for pain? I have heard of Tramadol and Asprin. thank you.

@Corina Daly, Asprin use is contradicted in potential cases where internal hemorrhaging may be occurring due to the antiplatelet action that aspirin possesses. Do you know where the break is? Do you have access to a veterinarian that will see your bird?

What about the spice turmeric, that does the same thing as ibuprofen. Sprinkle some on the food. Watch for sneezing, I had a rouen with a toe problem and it really helped her but my muscovy was severely allergic to turmeric it made her sneeze badly. One ducks cure is another's disease. Good luck to you.

Hi Isaaac, yes he has angel wing and it looks like its broken at the Ulnare because its hanging out more than ususal and he is definitely not himself. he is not eating but is fiddling with the water, how much he is taking in is not clear.

Corina, Is there any chance you could post a few pictures of the wing, or get a video of the goose? Ideally, the first goal of a fracture is assessment, then immobilization which can be done via a wing wrap, but there will be additional complications given the bird has AW.

I suggest you move the bird into an area where reinjury of the site is unlikely, and so feed/ and water are near for easy accessibility. If it is possible to physically examine the site ( palate the bones, gently bend the joints) that would be helpful in gaining additional information regarding the injury site.

Hi Isaac I did take him to the vet she said nothing was broken and he is certainly feeling better but he can’t open his wing to stretch it so I’m not sure I agree with the diagnosis. She strapped him up but he shrugged out of it the minute we got home. He was as good as gold at the bet but back to his naughty self when we got home.

Happy to hear.
