I am sure my American Buff, Gussie, is livid and is determined to show me such.

The geese will only lay in their shelter if they have no other nesting choice. Like when I'm too slow getting out to do chores. But I released them on time today, and Gussie rushed out to nest in her favorite spot.

It's cold out, and I tried waiting for Gussie to lay her egg by the house foundation. I even gave her some fresh straw to improve the site. After my third trip outdoors, I noticed she was standing up. So, I snagged the egg. Normally, quite docile, Gussie yelled repeatedly and loudly. My geese like to keep their eggs. The first year, they shared a nest with 18 eggs before I realized that BOTH are girls!

Since I am easily manipulated by critters, I felt badly for stealing her egg and took out some cabbage leaves. Both she and Golly ran up to me. Golly ate hers with great gusto. Gussie grabbed one leaf out of my hand, dropped it and nipped at me! She NEVER does that.

Maybe my offering was unacceptable? I came outside again, this time with a favorite treat: grapes. Golly gobbled hers, Gussie dropped hers and stared at me. I believe we are no longer friends. At least until she forgets my betrayal. I've already tried apologizing.

Don’t worry, it won’t last! The girls are a bit feisty this time of year too. Sometimes it isn’t even necesarily about the egg, they’re just in a mood. My Apricot likes to scold me over the most random things.

The very first time I collected eggs, Sissy my big Embden starts wailing at me like she lost a child. In human tongue "OH HOW COULD YOU DO THIS! I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING!" Now I make sure they're out in the field and I shut the door to the coop before I collect.
