I have 4 white Chinese geese, not sure on all their sexes yet. The 1 in question (dead eye diana) is a goose, i think. She has the smallest knob and 1 of the smaller ones, they're about 5 months old. I've had them since they were 6 weeks old.
Back story; about 2 months ago she got an eye pecked out, she went about her business and all was well except she is blind in that eye now.
They free range w about 20 chickens and 2 turkeys. They mostly weed the yard, hang around their kiddy pool and make holes out of puddles eating grass and roots.
Yesterday, dead eye diana was sitting off by herself, i walked over to her and she didnt try to run off. Very unnormal of her, i thought maybe she might be searching for spots to nest.
I'm in louisiana, the past week or so has been spring like in the 70s lower 80s. Eh, weirder things have happened, thought weather pattern might have effected them.
Anyway, the other 3 go about their business, keeping an eye on her. I go see about her and the others begin yelling.
I've moved them all to a seperate yard, she still sits off by herself, facing a wall or fence. She did some grazing today, but didn't pick any grass. She just goes through the motions never picking grass. Threw out some diced cucumbers, she did the same thing.
I think she drinks water, I see her neck muscles moving.
Also, she feels a little light so I'm thunking she hasn't eaten much the past few days.
I've checked her neck and nothing feels stuck. When she walks it almost seems shes walking blindly. Lastly, it maybe just me being paranoid she seems a little swollen near the base of her neck.
Any ideas? My wife says possible brain infection from eye pecking, idk, i just want to make sure I've covered my bases before i make harder decisions.
