Goose possibly had too large a cabbage leaf? Showing discomfort

Oh I definitely give her kale, she usually likes it. She gets fussy with it in the summer months though. It's kinda funny cause she prefers it fresh from the garden and if I try to give her store bought (when I'm waiting for the kale to be ready for another harvest) she rejects it 95% of the time. She's fine with store bought in the winter. It's hilarious. I give cabbage also as well as try to introduce other things so she doesn't get bored with a specific veggie. She gets that way. If she has it too much she won't eat it at all.

I just asked Brave AI about giving raw kale to geese:

Can Geese Eat Raw Kale

Yes, you can give raw kale to geese. Raw kale is a nutritious option for geese, providing essential vitamins and minerals. Here are some key points to consider:
  • Nutritional Benefits: Raw kale is rich in vitamins A, C, and K, as well as calcium, iron, and fiber, which are beneficial for geese.
  • Digestibility: Raw kale is easier for geese to digest compared to cooked kale, as cooking can reduce the nutrient content.
  • Portion Control: Ensure that the kale is cut into small pieces to make it easier for geese to eat and digest.
  • Avoid Seasonings: Do not add any seasonings or salt to the kale, as these can be harmful to geese.
  • Hydration: Providing kale in water can be a fun way for geese to enjoy their treat while staying hydrated.
  • Supplement Diet: While kale is nutritious, it should be part of a balanced diet for geese, which can include other vegetables and grains.
  • Avoid Goitrogens: Although raw kale contains goitrogens, which can affect thyroid function, moderate consumption is generally safe and unlikely to cause serious issues.
  • Seasonal Feeding: Raw kale can be a great addition to a goose’s diet year-round, but it is especially beneficial during the winter months when geese need more energy to maintain body heat.
  • Gradual Introduction: Introduce kale gradually to allow geese to adjust to the new food.
  • Avoid Overfeeding: Do not overfeed geese with kale, as it should be part of a varied diet to ensure they get all necessary nutrients.

The answer on it being easier to digest is odd.

But in humans:

Disadvantages of Eating Raw Kale:

  • Digestibility: Raw kale can be tough to digest due to its fibrous cell walls, which may prevent efficient nutrient absorption.
  • Goitrin Content: Raw kale contains goitrin, a compound that can interfere with thyroid function, especially in individuals with thyroid issues.
  • Oxalate Levels: Excessive consumption of raw kale can lead to higher oxalate levels, which may contribute to the formation of kidney stones, particularly in individuals prone to them.

Mine are that way with blackberries. They love the ones from the yard “those that will eat them anyway” and absolutely loathe the ones from the store.

it's so funny. Our goose will walk with my daughter along the property line looking for berries and they pick then together. it's adorable.
