Goose Sitting On Duck Eggs

I have a lone goose, who recently went what I suppose broody, and she has no gander. So I switched out her 2 non-fertilized eggs with fertilized duck eggs while she was out eating. She took a look at them, and then sat right on them and now won't get up. I was relieved but worried about the cons. What could happen?

She’ll hatch them, I’ve never been in this situation myself so it’s an unknown to me, though my geese are very parental “even the ganders love babies!” One year one of my ganders did try to adopt two ducklings as his own so if she likes them she’ll raise them.

You’ll need to make sure she gets up and eats drinks and bathes or she’ll get so run down she could be to worn down to care for her ducklings when they hatch.

I have a big dish a foot away from her nest and food and we have a kiddie pool available to her to swim in.

Only thing I'd worry about is her breaking the eggs. Egg shell is thinner than goose eggs.

That's true I was thinking of Muscovy eggs instead of my Runners and Buffs. Even my Muscovy female smashed a Runner egg last summer.

My lone goose and my laying duck share a nest every year they both lay eggs in it and take turns sitting she has never smashed any eggs and is actually pretty devoted even after we remove her un fertile eggs she still helps tend the nest.
