I have an African goose, Lucy (approaching 7 months) who's voice started to be faint this evening. When we approach her she usually honks very loudly in excitement but this evening she was rather mild and her voice sounded almost weak. She does sometimes make a quiet, high-pitched sound around me but this sounded different. She was in for a handful of hours with the other ducks while I was away and when we got home she was loud as usual but within a couple hours her sound was unusually faint. Even when my son came down (who she usually has mixed feeling about, is nervous and anxiously loud around him) her honk was very mild. She's eating, drinking and preening as normal but voice is off. I gave her some vetrx before putting her to bed.

Are you sure it's a female? Males will have a voice change around that age. I can tell my young males in a group because they start honking loudly in between the normal vocalizations.

I've never seen a goose with a respiratory problem. Maybe she was just more tired, so her vocalizations were more quiet.

100% sure, she lays eggs :) She also has had a very strong honk for a long time now. She seemed rather weak or tired the day I noticed the difference. There wasn't anything different that I can think of that would've caused this other than maybe the weather change (temps are cooling down in the Northeast)? But it really wasn't that cold considering the pool was still an option lol. The next day she was back to honking again but still not as powerful and consistent as usual. She tends to get stirred up rather easily with certain people or actions but she was fairly unresponsive. Today she's back to herself.

That’s a good sign that she’s feeling better and her voice is normal.
