This guy has been coming in our yard for a few weeks with a smaller goose. He has this mass growing on his leg, I noticed he has a little trouble walking, he does fly out of your yard but mainly sits on the dock. I'm curious has anyone seen anything like this before. Living on a lake for 15 years I've seen my fair share of birds, but nothing like this!

i just realized this forum is probably about raising geese! oops! well maybe someone know whats going on with this guy anyways!

You're in the right spot. This is where all the goose people hang out.

i've never seen anything like that. i suspect it is a tumor of some sort. Or, could it be something that got wrapped around his leg? Sure would be great if you, or someone, could catch him and have that leg looked at. Is there a wildlife rescue organization in your area?

Oh, and

There probably isn't anything you can do for him.

Yes, I've seen very thick knobby looking ankles on a goose that had a severe leg injury. The leg might have even been broken and it healed with a huge lump on it.

That one looks like he is getting around OK.

He will prob do just fine as long as he has two healthy wings. I have seen many one legged birds hopping around with the regular two legger on parking lots begging for leftovers and french fry crumbs from under the kids car seats. ( we call parking lot birds , no matter what kind french fry birdies).

It still would be nice if someone could check the leg out, it could be fishing line or something of that nature that could be cut off and save a foot and or leg. a wildlife rescue operation would take care of it. he is beautiful

Thanks a lot! I called my local wildlife rescue and had to leave a message... He is getting around okay and does move pretty fast, I don't think I'll be able to catch him to get a closer look. I'll keep an eye on him and see what happens!

Please let us know if you hear from the wildlife rescue..
