gosling and water?

ive read in books that goslings can not go in water untill they are all feathered out but ice also heard that as long as you are watching them they can swim around for a little bit, is that true? so after 2 weeks when they are too big to drink out of the plastic chick waterers does that mean if i put a shallow pan in the brooder that they can stand in, will they be able to swim and use it to drink from as im not home?

I had baby geese one time and the mom had them in the water a few days after hatching...that is their safe zone. what book did you read this in?

oh yeah, make sure they can get out when they want to get out though.

ive heard it in basically every poultry book but i think its talking to large scale geese farms were they aren't going to be constantly watching them as they are playing​

if i have a little ramp for them to get in and out will i be able to have them swim in a pan when im not home?​

Yes make sure they can get out. It won't hurt them to be in the water though unless they get chilled afters. Blowdryer is great when they cannot dry out quick enough. They can drown though so be sure you are watching carefully.

They can go in the water as soon as you want them to, but make sure they don't chill after. If your putting a pan in the brooder, be prepared for a mess when you get home, lol maybe before you leave. My guys get a gallon jug with a hole cut for their heads to fit in when they are in the brooder so they can't play in it, but they get a pan of water when they go outside to play.

My goslings were swimming in the pond at about 1-2 weeks, I was there with them and they loved it. I waited till they were big enough to walk down to the pond. Now they follow me there everyday. I'm in TX and I'm not worried about a chill as it's hot as hell already! jennifer

I take mine to swim once or twice a week, but it's amazing how fast they can get chilled, so the swims are breif, they get towled off and they go into the brooder with the heat going until they are completely dry.
