Hatched a gosling, chicks won’t hatch for 2 more days. When I tried to put the gosling in a separate brooder due to the 10 degree difference in temp requirements, he had a hissy fit for an hour; screechy peeps, throwing himself around, trembling. He calmed a little when I talked to him but as soon as I stopped, he would act up. I relented & put him back in with the chick eggs & he calmed down significantly. Now I am playing meditation music & watching him sleep on top of the eggs in 102 degree brooder. If I put an egg in the cooler area, it will likely die. If I leave him where he’s calmer, I’m afraid he’ll cook. Any suggestions? No other goslings that I’ve been able to find Near me. TIA

Is there space for him to move out of the heat of your hatching brooder of he chooses? Are you able to leave food and water in there for him?

Lots of room, food & water available, however he can't stand or straighten out his neck to drink or eat. I had been giving him food and water hourly yet he was losing weight. I went to nearby poultry owners who said wry neck is not uncommon, often does not resolve depending on cause & they suggested putting him down. As much as I hated to, I would not risk him starving or dying of dehydration if I missed a feeding or could not keep up with his needs... so he is gone. No more incubating for me.
