Gosling Hatched in Cold Weather

I am definitely not disregarding.. I am sorry you took it that way.. I am a veterinary technician with years of experience and have raised goslings before - just not in December in my tub. :)
Going to find a mirror and I checked the heat when I got home. Had he been despondent, inactive, etc I would have considered adding some other heat source. I did add a hot water bottle underneath a towel for him to cuddle. I appreciate all ideas - thank you.

Why not just get a thermometer and check the temperature . I've had mine in the bathroom like you and I know it can be hot but I still always check ed the temperature .

You keep your bathroom at 90ºF? How do you stand it? You are much more dedicated than I am. You don't need a heat lamp in the house, just the fixture with a regular light bulb in it, the wattage will depend on how far away it is, which is easily checked with a thermometer. A bigger box would give him room to exercise and keep it cleaner longer. He/she's a cutie, but you need to have a talk with your adults about the proper season to hatch eggs.

Sometimes it´s not just advice we want, but also experiences. So here´s mine:
My first 3 goslings I got from a friend in the winter (here it´s still warm in the day, about 25ºC, but can be a frost at night), and she said just to pop them in a shoe-box at night. They never had a lamp. They never got sick.

That was over 2 years ago, and this year they´ve raised their own, with a few bumpy patches. I´ve had to bring in a number of newly-hatched gozzies into the house for various reasons, and just pop them in a box with a desk-lamp over and they´re fine. Noisy, but fine.

With the latest ones that I´ve had in, being spring here, the temperature in the house has been about 27ºC, which I think is a bit below 90F, but they just love the lamp that first week...in and out of the heat. I presently have some week-old chicks in, the temperature is over 90F during the day, but they still go in and out of the heat of the lamp!

A healthy gosling is unlikely to drown in a bowl of water like a turkey might, but when it gets wet it´ll really enjoy heating up under a lamp. And the mirror is so important, it gives them company, so they´re less stressed. Mine are all back out with their parents now.

Did any others hatch? I take it no. And one way of feeding them that they love is to float tiny pieces of lettuce in the water bowl.
Hope all goes ok with the gosling.

He was pretty active when I got home tonight.. Cheeping away at me. He had put some goose starter into his water bowl and was moving a lot quicker. I don't think he is cold. It is very warm in there and he is always dry except for the first couple of days.
That's great news, and putting a mirror in with the little will also help give it some company, being by itself for long periods of time isn't good for them they need interaction with something besides themselves. Please keep us updated on this lil ones progress.

Thanks LivinginBrazil.. That is exactly what I was looking for... :) Its very nice to hear how other people raised geese in the house and what they did to make things comfortable for the baby. He is pretty busy this morning standing in his food dish throwing it in the water. LOL

My goslings are 2 weeks old and seem to stay away from the spot directly under the heat lamp. What is the schedule for reducing the temperature for them?

I thought I saw something that said 10F per week, but was that after 1 week or 4 weeks? I can't find that article again.

Thanks!
