So I had a few goose eggs in my incubator, and the first one hatched last night. It had a yoke sack on the outside which has been half way absorbed by now after putting the gosling on a damp paper towel in the incubator, but I just noticed that it hasn’t opened it’s eyes and one definitely looks messed up...

what’s wrong with him and will he be okay? When I opened the incubator to take these pics he had some foam coming out of his beak as well, but I offered him some water and he drank a bit and stopped foaming. Please help ASAP 😓

Has the yolk now absorbed? Leave the wet paper towels out and just place the gosling on soft dry paper towels. As for offering liquid make sure it can hold its head up so it doesn’t aspirate. Is the eye looking any better?

The eye is not looking better, but the yolk is mostly absorbed. It still has a bit to go. I gave it a bit of water and I think it drank some, but it is not able to hold its head up quite yet. It’s not yet 24 hrs old either, though, so I don’t know if it not being able to hold its head up yet is normal? He seems strong otherwise. He got tired a bit ago and I got worried but now he’s kicking and scooting around the incubator again!

It doesn’t need anything to eat or drink for. The first 24 hrs since that’s what the yolk is for. Make sure the little one can hold his head up good then before you offer feed or water. And give it more time to recover since it hatched early. Hopefully after 24 hrs you’ll see a big difference. And post more pictures of the eye tomorrow after it’s had more time to recover.

Okay thanks so much 😣 is there anything I should do for his eye?

It also seems maybe tired now? It’s peeping very quietly and just laying curled. He did that a bit ago too but then resumed kicking around a little while later. And still can’t hold his head up very well :( is that normal for goslings?
