Got 6 chicks

Since the coop is almost done (pics to follow in the Coop section) we went up to Dodge Grain in Salem, NH to pick up some chicks. We were hoping to get 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Aracunas & 2 Barred Rocks but they were out of Aracunas so we got 2 Welsummers instead.


Here they are in their temporary brooder on the sun porch (I have a much larger brooder in the basement where they'll spend the next couple of weeks) - the green stuff is Gro-Gel, once they figured out what it was, it was a mad frenzy of eating.

Just so you know, any aracaunas or ameracaunas from a hatchery / feed store is just an EE, so Unless you wanted a couple EEs then I wouldn't worry too much

Actually we did want a couple of Easter Eggers but I gave my son the option of waiting and ordering some and he chose to get the Welsummers. All good with me.

yay cute chicks. I just got even more yesterday, I found a frizzle in the box. Lucky me.

Finished up the sun porch brooder today - this will be their last in the house home til they move out to the coop. I just swapped out their waterer with a gatorade bottle with a poultry nipple in the cap. Hope they figure out how to use it. Will keep checking on them.
