I'm going to go out on a limb and HOPE that you dont use the Banfield Vet that can be found in Petsmart!
They are the worst clinics known to the animal world! They have the highest death rate of any clinic and are usually run by interns that spend about two weeks in class.
They treated my American Bulldog for Mites, when he had ALLERGIES! I poisoned my dog with ivermectin (a dog with WHITE FEET!) for three months before I got a second opinion.

If you dont use them, I would say Good on you for Calling them out on their money taking scheme! I think most vets, kind of like Doctors, do whatever they can to cost us money becuase they think we animals lovers dont know anything and want only the best for our "babies".... I also think about 3/4 of them are full of horse poopy.

A friend of mine just had her Lab treated there a couple of months ago, they said he had mites in his ears,, this morning they went to another vet because he's still in pain, scratching etc... He has the worst yeast infection they've ever seen. They said it might be bad enough they can control but not cure it. In the past two months they went back to the vet at Petsmart, were charged every time, and given ear drops and such that did nothing for the infection they said he didn't have.

Smart thinking, if you asked me, and you did ask me! LOL Those vets will get every penny that they can sometimes......you did good!

I have done the more expensive test on both my dogs, but I am in a tick hot area. One of my dogs tested negative with the more expensive test. Another consideration to think about is if your dogs have been exposed and tested positive, your family is also at risk. We have a 2 related families in our town that 4 dogs tested positive and 8 out of 10 family members are were also positive.
