Can my ducks brood with 3 chicks that are the same size?
Is there a way to keep their food dryer? They seem to make a huge mess LOL.
Also their water is always dirty, are they getting in there and playing? I'm using a CD case lid about 2 inches deep and I fill it about 3/4 the way full and change the water every time I check on them.

I am brooding two duckling with 3 chicks. How old are they ducklings and the chicks? When I got mine, they were the same size, but now the ducklings are WAY bigger that the chicks. They still get along fine though :D

I hatched my 1st chicks of the year a couple weeks ago and he did not have a buddy, so when we went to TSC we got two ducklings to keep him company. They are best buddies and everything has worked out fine, so far. They have been together for almost 3 weeks now without any problems. They are very attached to eachother. I have them in a metal stainless steel cage, the bottom is wire, with a tray underneath. I fill the tray at the bottom with hay, and then put more hay on top of the wire. I scoot some of the hay on the wire out of the way and put their food and water over the wire so anything that spills goes down to the tray. It has worked good so far, but they are about to out grow it! LOL Good luck

P.S. Your ducklings may try and bite the new chicks, that is normal. My ducklings do the same thing to the smaller chicks when they are outside in a playpen. They will work it out, the ducks just want to be boss. : D

Ducks are a few days old, chicks are almost 3 weeks old.

Okay, the duckling will grow REALLY fast and will probably out grow the chicks in a few weeks. they grow really quick. Here is mine when I first got them:

Here they are now:

Big difference right?

Cool I'm not that worried about the chicks since they are twice as old as the ducks and are half feathered. So they should be out in general pop here soon, but I went from 10 chicks down to 3 and wanted to make sure they could stay warm at night in the brooders. I have a light, but just want to be sure.
