Look at the egg one of my Jumbo Browns ( Mrs. AK Birdbrain stock) laid today!

Sorry the pic isnt great, my digital isnt working so that's from my digital camera.

the three eggs on the right are from some newly laying A&M's . The large egg on the top right is a chicken egg, right below that and somewhat shaded so you cant see it all.. is the
JUMBO egg! Then the ones below it are what I used to consider nice large coturnix eggs!

I may have to throw that one in the bator with the eggs I'm getting from monarch this week .

What happens when you try to hatch a double yalker? You got two chicks like human's twins, or just one very strong chick? If just one chick, why are hens sometimes laying double yalker anyway, if one is enough for good chance of survival?

Most double yolkers don't survive to hatch b/c there isn't enough room in the egg for both of them to grow. The hens usually don't always lay double yolkers...they just ovulate 2 yolks instead of 1 every now and then, which makes a double yolker.

Thank you for educating me.

I have always loved double yalker when I got them from grocery chicken eggs. A little bit of surprise plus more to eat.

Yeah, double yolkers are very hard to hatch. I believe citalk2much did by accident a while back with button eggs. She had 1 more chick come out of the bator than eggs that went in. So it is possible. I personally won't try it, but it can be done.

Well the point of this thread was my nice big egg .. not double yolkers there hijackers! hehehee . I would incubate it because I want more hens that lay an egg this big.. could care les if they are double yolkers.

hey Nancy I *think* in your shipment (though I could be wrong) that I sent you a huge egg as well. I think it was you.

You'll have ot let me know. someone got one LOL!

Anywho not to hijack this thread again about double yolkers but if that one is a DY you will be very lucky if it even delvelops let alone hatches. The big one (that i think i sent to you) may be a DY too but I am unsure.

The DY's are fun. I do try hatching them when I collect eggs for myself because I did successfully get one to hatch....though teh twin was DOA in the tip of the shell. They were golden twins

Odd thing was the egg wasnt huge!
