Because they keep misplacing thier 10# ones. Have you ever tried to play fetch with a pocket book dog? (unless of course you are throwing the little one for the 200#er to bring back.

Sorry to bump this way old thread but I'm hoping ya'll have advice/experience with St. Bernards and chickens. I think we're keeping an abandoned puppy which we suspect has some St. Bernard genes. Anyone have any insight as to how St. Bernards might be expected to react to free-ranging chickens?

Congrats on your new "baby" She is a real beauty.

My St. mix is the BEST dog ever. Even his vet says so.

I ask myself that same question everytime I see someone with a teensy tiny dog......why would anyone want a dog that is smaller than most cats.

Some of us are big dog people and some are small dog people.

My 11 month old saint is crazy hyper and very rough and mouths the birds. I think she is playing but would kill them in due time. So my saint is not allowed out unsupervised. I have had her and working with her since she was 8 weeks old.

Yes, the consensus among what I'm reading seems to be that mouthing and inadvertent killing is probably the worst of it. That's much better than being prey driven. On a good note, they don't seem to generally care one lick about cats (our other yard citizens).

Oh she cares about the cats too she chases them but wants to play and we have a younger one inside that she mawls and slobbers to death....does hurt it but not on purpose and not to the point makes it bleed either. I tell her to leave it or no bite and she is nicer.....she takes her front paw and lays it over the cat and they play together. I will try and get the video I just took the other day uploaded of them playing.
