I got a call from a lady who I have bought several turkeys from and she told me that she had to get rid of her Black Spanish gobbler because he had gotten aggressive toward her and she did not trust him to be around the kids in her daycare any longer. She had raised the 4 year old from the incubator and he was just like a dog following her on walks and brushing up against her to be petted but twice in the past month he had sent her to the doctor to be treated for injuries he had inflicted on her.

She told me that I was the only person she could think of to call that might be willing to take him and spare him from being put down. I agreed to take him and see if a change of scenery would calm him down. So far so good. We've had him a week and no problems other than he and my Royal Palm gobbler trying to get at each other through the poultry netting between their pens.

She also gave his mate to bring with him. The hen has laid 3 eggs so far. The first was without a shell. just the leathery membrane held the egg together but yesterday we found 2 perfect eggs. She is not laying in the nest but just laying them here and there so we are going to collect them for a few days and then put them under my broody Red Bourbon hen who is sitting on a clutch of bad ebay eggs.

he is in moult right now but is still beautiful when he struts in the backyard with the sun hitting him. I can't wait to get a few baby Spanish hatched and hopefully he continues to be a model citizen. he wants to be constantly petted and loves to have his head rubbed.

Oh....his name is George.
