Got a roo last week. How long will it take to get fertile eggs?

You know you are right abouit the orphingtons. I don't know what I was thinking. I was really just trying to make a point that all chickens are not good setters.

Ok, does anyone have an answer to my othwer question yet? If my roos RIR and my hens are Amberlink, what will the chicks be? If they will be mutts, I'm thinking about calling them Rhode Island Ambers!!!

Just hoping that they won't look weird being mixed breed...

I know you are very excited to breed your birds and to get eggs and to get babies and how could you not be being as they are too too cute... but I didn't see anything on here about having quarantined that new roo. Bio-security is absolutely crucial to the safety and health of every flock. One little unsuspecting bug and a flock can be wiped out within days.

There is a search feature at the upper right corner of this page where you can look up "bio-security" and "quarantine".

Here's to Happy Healthy Fertile Eggs,

How long has your Amberlink been laying. Did you get them from Tractor Supply? I have 6 hens and 2 roosters. one rooster has been "courting" for 2 weeks now. Hopefully they will be laying soon.

Can't wait to have really fresh eggs.

Yes, I got the Amberlinks from Tractor Supply. One of my hens started laying two weeks ago, but we don't get an egg every single day. My other hens are still not laying. They are almost four months old now!! My roo is RIR and he's a year and 3 mon. old. We got him from our neighbor, who had too many roos.

I was given 11 AL chicks and ended up with 6 hens and 5 roo's . Kept the 2 nicest looking roo's and sent 3 to freezer camp. How do you like them so far? My hens are very docile but I have 1 roo named Brutus and the other is Mr. Cocky. The names kind of say it all about temprament.

OMG, I LOVE my amberlinks! They are great! Sorry to hear about the excess amount of roos! My hens are very happy lil' hens! They look alot like each other except one of them has dark brown and white feathers, three of them have light brown and white feathers and two of them are pure white. I have found ways to tell them apart! My roo is white/yellow with dark green tail feathers. He is RIR. Enjoy your sweet Amber links!!
