Well I made it through the day without purchasing any more chicks. Today will probably be a different story. I have plans to finish my "coop" this weekend. I think coop is an understatement. We'll call it a chicken house. Up until a few days ago, it was a well house. There is lots of room and a perfect place to build a run on the backside. I am so amazed how much the girls already trust my son and I. Neither of us can move that they don't follow. When I go look into their brooder, they will stop and look at me like, well are you going to pick me up or not. They are so funny. I love when they stand up tall and flap their wings. God, I'm in love with a chicken! Sounds like the title of a bad country song. HA! HA! Its good to talk to other chickaholics, I know I'm not alone in my addiction. I'll update later, I think my local TSC has chicks in. More fuzzy butts going home with me today! I'm going to call and see, I can't wait til I get off work to find out. I'll probably have to change my plans just a bit for my coop. I'd say by the weekend, I'll be living in the chicken house too. My wife is about to croak over my new loves.
I knew it would happen. I just found a really nice lady near me selling hatching eggs on Craigslist for a great price. I will be picking up a dozen RIR and a dozen Doms. More fuzzy butts! I'm so excited. If anyone in or around East TN is looking, she seems like a pleasure to do business with.
And let me say, I got bit by the bug last Spring, and bit HARD. I am now sitting at 34 chickens, 6 ducks (4 were ducklings I just got yesterday) and 82 eggs in the incubators. I have more eggs coming, and more after that, and then more...plus I'm hatching my own eggs out. Now, in my defense I must add-I am planning to sell off most of the chicks. I simply don't have enough room for 200+ chickens, as tempting as it might be, lol. I'd need a dozen coops!

Let me say just how jealous I really am! You are my idol!
Hey TwoChicks, I got a story for ya. Last night as I was checking on the girls, I noticed one of them had some poo stuck around its rear. I had read about this problem and wasn't exactly looking forward to correcting it. It was almost like its rear end had grown into the poo. Almost like a scab! I didn't think she would be very happy about me washing her rear but I was wrong! She sat so still in my hand while I cleaned her up. When I was finished, she stood in my hand and put her head between her legs and checked it out. She must have been please cause she stood up tall and flapped her wings at me chirping. This should be in the chorus of my country song, cleaning my chicks butt!
Girl you have got it bad. so happy to hear it. i love my babies, and big ones too. you really need to work on your country song, it may be our theme song on BYC... Hey and Welcome from Georgia.
Ahhh the chicken bug! Just wait, you will move on to ducks, geese, peacocks and so on and so on! THEN the incubating bug will bite you and you will be known as the crazy chicken lady!! Don't ask me how I know this, it certainly is NOT from personal experience!!!!
