Got coop, no chicks

Thank you for all the friendly welcomes. Here's a quick photo of the coop (before I'd cleaned up the jobsite :)). Its another 'Wichita' coop variant. 6'x10', planning to kick off with 4 chickens, and maybe add a few more as the flock ages and slows down laying.

I designed the framing using the free version of Autodesk Fusion 360 (would have preferred to use SketchUp but the free version doesn't let you create a parts list from the design). That sounds very grand, but I'm a novice at construction (and using Fusion 360), so I have lots of lessons learned I can share. Big reason for building my own was the fun of learning.

Keep posting. You'll be able to share all the lessons soon.

Welcome.
You made a beautiful coop!

Ready for a new adventure?
If you buy an incubator and make a setup for chicks in a reasonably warm place you can start now with fertilised eggs without having to wait too long. Dive into the incubation article section .

Do figure out, before you go for it, if you want to have to deal with cockerels or not. If you want 4 ladies, take a gamble and start with 10 - 12 eggs.

Best pick up eggs from a BYC hobbyist yourself. Start in the house, move to a garage when it gets too dusty.
You can move them outside after 8 weeks with just a little warmth if its very cold. 🥶
