GOT EM! (2 buttons and 2 questions)

How can you tell he is red breasted? All I can see is his silver

She looks like cinnamon to me, the whole picture looks 'that red'.

Unfortunately, the bald backs are from having too many birds in one pen, that's one thing they 'do' when in colonies or groups. They will grow back, though it seems to take forever! Lots of high-protein treats should help with that...and with little man's attempts at wooing his new girl

You were right about it taking FOREVER to grow back their feathers. She finally started to get some new feathers poking through her bald back and he dutifly plucked them off one at a time

He still doesn't seem to be growing any new feathers at all (I guess she started growing them earlier because he gives her all the meal worms). I am wondering if I would have to separate them to get her feathers back- she probably wouldn't mind too much if I kept up with the meal worms but he would be devastated. Is that the only way? I wouldn't mind them bald if it were warmer...

I wouldn't separate them. It will just cause then calling each other to come back to each other. Let him take care of his love. He will get pretty too over time

Thank you! She seems to be sprouting a few more wee feathers - hopefully he will leave these ones in! (maybe if he misses a couple as they poke through they can hide the other emerging feathers?) And yes, I don't think I would have the heart to separate the two- not sure the poor fellow would survive it. Oh and pine tar? Wouldn't that be really hard on their skin/emerging feathers and bellies as they preen?

Actually, they are not!
Generally speaking, YES! Technically speaking...NO, they are not always anything.

I don't know about any other "QUAIL" other than coturnix, but you can cultivate very large roos, if you are not cull happy, or drag them down to auction kind of folks. You can get some pretty large roos, compared to hens.

I'm just saying

One pair of my buttons the male had a bald back feathers would start to grow for a few days and then bald again.

This went on for a few months and I was getting frustrated. But I just fed them well and let them stay together he is now one of my most beautiful males.
