Got goats, thinking about getting chickens

I'm still in the process of talking my husband into chickens, but I want to research as much as I can so I've got some ammo for him. Since we have predators, I'm thinking about keeping the chickens only in their coop; is that acceptable? If not, then I'll scrap the whole idea; I wouldn't want unhappy or unhealthy chickens.
I also want to know which breed is the most tame and sweet and liking to be held because I'm a touchy feeling kind of person who kisses her goats. I'm already a crazy goat lady, so maybe someday I can also be a crazy chicken lady. Oh, as with goats, I'm sure everybody has differing opinions on what breed they like, so just tell me your passion and I will consider all advice.

when you say coop do you mean it will have a run attached? If so then yes, but keeping them indoors all the time... that would be difficult especially with our heat. You can make a small coop with run that is predator proof, just need to use hardware cloth and put a top on it. Keep it small.. its not too hard. Tons of pictures here in the coop section or on the coop design pages on this site. Good luck!

Thanks Nancy, yes I was thinking about one with a run and definately one that I can go in and visit. My property came with a coop on it already, but it's down far away from the house and it's not in that good of shape, so I want something new and close to the house. I'm so paranoid about losing my animals that I have my goats living in the garage where I have built some big kennels for there pens; my only problem now is getting somebody to come and clean out the pens since I'm too sore to do it.
