Just hatched some chicks about 5 days ago. Yesterday I noticed one of them, (a speckled sussex) has a gimpy leg. The leg stays kind of splayed out to one side, and back most of the time. The chick can occassionally get the leg under it, and gets around fair right now. I've felt of it as best I can, and it doesn't feel broken, just some kind of deformity, like its twisted. The foot is just a little odd, too. I did not have the chicks on paper. They've been in hay/straw the whole time in the brooder.

Wondering if it is likely to strengthen as the chick grows? I'd hate to have to....You know. Plus only two of these Sussex chicks hatched. Anyone dealt with this?

I have the same problem with one of my 3 week old RIR's. At first I thought it was something on her foot but as they grew it became apparent there was a real problem. She is 50% smaller than her hatch mates and she drags her whole left leg behind her. She will occasionally swing her leg under her while hopping. Her back looks crooked as well, and her left wing is uneven with her right one. With that being said, she has a strong will to live, she put up such a ruckus when I tried to isolate her that I just put her back. My guess is that it's out of the joint but I don't know what to do.
I hope someone can help us!!
