I got my babies from Ideal this morning! YAY!!!!!!! I ordered 25, they sent 31! All arrived alive and chirpy, although there were 3 that looked weak. Of those, after they drank... I am really only worried about 1. The others seem much better now. They are soooooooo cute, and loud! It was kinda funny. THe box was much smaller than I expected (first time ordering shipped chicks). As I was pulling them out and dipping beaks, I was counting.... it kind of seemed like clowns piling out the the circus cars LOL... there were jsut more and more. I can't believe they all made it! I am so happy!

Sorry for rambling!

Yay congrats!!

Just after I put them in the cage... still warming up.

This is the weak baby I am worried about. It hasn't moved on its own, and when I tried to move it closer to the heat cuz it felt chilly, it just kind of flopped over. It sat back up, but very slowly.

Here is another pic of that chick... the first one was taken with no flash under the red light. This one has flash, but the chick is actually a color inbetween these pics.

You might try putting a bit of liquid food down the weak one. I've used a medicine dropper on a grown hen and it was actually pretty easy. I held her up side down, wrapped in a towel to keep her still, and just put the medicine dropper in her mouth.

I used hummingbird syrup to get moisture and energy down her but sugered water would work. The idea is to get its energy up so it can eat and drink on its own. You might need to dip its beak again when it gets more energy.

I love the picture of them in the box. I think it would be worth a picture of the week submission.

I got the bantam surprise special from Ideal.... I dont have any idea what most of the are (other than bantam LOL). THere is at least 1 silkie (but I think there is really 2 or 3) and I think MAYBE an EEer. I got halfway through the box, ohhing and awwwing at them before I realized I should be looking at legs for the only 2 kinds I might be able to figure out LOL. By then, half were running around the brooder and I gave up trying to peek at their legs. About 2/3rds of them are feather legged though. I'll try to get group pics later and ask for ID help.

Adorable!!! They are loud! I loved the clown car thing..... Thats so true!

Let us know what breeds you ordered!

Congrats on the new babies. I have 34in the brooder that were hatched 12/28/09 from ideal. I have only lost 1 just yesterday.... not sure why.

Ideal has been great for me!!!!!
