I found some birds yesterday, and I picked up one black star, and three barred rocks. from some of the advise on here, I built a "poop board" but I had to order the PDZ, it will be here today, nobody had it around here. Now that i have these birds and got the best structure I could get I don't know what to do LOL, this is my first attempt at chickens. Last night I had to physically put one on the roost, because they were all huddled up in a nest box, once I did that the rest flew up on there own! I checked this morning and they are still roosting. Not sure when the best time to open the door to let them into the run, we have a HUGE raccoon population here, I see 6 or 7 on my cameras, after I

already trapped 6. I do have raccoon traps around coop area at this time.

Congratulations on your new flock. I would suggest adding some 1/2 - 19 gauge hardware cloth over the existing wire. A raccoon would be able to put his arm through the wire you have now. Also, add a roosting bar in their run. My BR pullets have shown my RIR hens the joys of roosting in the breeze and they love it. Sorry to be a PIA, but make sure you have raccoon proof latches like carabiners on your door. Best of luck with your wee ones.

Thank you, its on my list to do asap, I am very aware of what Raccoons are capable of, I deal with raccoons at work on almost a daily basis. To do it correctly, the wire needs to be buried in a "L" shape.
