Got my first chickens!!!

I just love these little chicks .

Came down this morning and the food bowl was upside down, checked under it and no one there.

. I notice the Maran chicks have a very loud chirp compared to the others, and they are the smallest! Some of the others have cute trills and chirps are sweeter. I love the sound, I will miss it when they grow up.
The ones with the yellow heads, do they look like RIR or Sexlink golds like we were told?

It's some sort of straw pellets that a feed and animal supply store suggested we use in the aquarium. I'm going to switch to something else soon when this bedding goes bad to go in the new cage for them.

My son is almost finished with the cage which measures 6 feet by 4 feet and 4feet tall. He was using our electric staple gun to staple the chicken wire to the 2x4 corners but he ran out of them before he could finish. The chicks should be in their new cage sometime Friday or Saturday!!! I'll have him take pics when it's finished.

He finished the cage yesterday by stapling the last of the chicken wire around the 2x4 posts. Here's new pics with the chicks inside their new home until later this spring:

Oh, and it measures 4 feet wide by 6 feet long, and is 4ft high. Heating are two 250watt Infrared heat lamps and one 100watt red floodlight. The bedding is leftover straw pellets and Pine Shavings.

Oh, and one of the easter eggers (Americaunas?) managed to fly up to 2ft high but only for about a second in air time...!
