Hey all! So I got my first egg today! So exciting! I am wondering how all of you guys store your eggs! Do you wash and refrigerate? Do you leave on the counter? How long can you leave them till you consider them bad? I would LOVE! To hear about everyone’s strategies for storing their eggs! Thanks everyone!! Woo hoo!!

I only have four hens, so my family keeps our eggs in check pretty well. We have an 18 egg carton on the counter that all eggs go in after being retrieved from the coop. If the carton overflows we give some eggs to friends and neighbors. We do not wash the eggs until right before we are going to use them.

If the eggs are dirty, I wash them. Egg shells are porous, so bacteria can actually get inside the egg if there is dirt or poop stuck to them. If the eggs are clean, they go unwashed into the egg carton. I keep my eggs in the fridge just to make sure they stay fresh and clean, and because I don't know how long I will have them. I also typically have to wash something off an egg, and once eggs are washed they have to go in the fridge because part of the bloom gets washed off too.
