Got my first two chicks!

So I picked up a black star pullet and a columbian wyandotte pullett (fingers crossed on that one lol) today! They are so cute! I set up my brooder. Now they do nothing but chirping super loud constantly lol!! Is that normal? I sprinkled their crumbles and they went crazy eating them, but I just can't get them to eat from any dish or feeder. perhaps they are hungry and just can't figure out.

Not normal. What's your temp? Are they too cold or hot?

More in likely they're too cold.

IMHO they should always have food and water.
I use a chick waterer with a 1 qt jars and a small ceramic cat dish I fill everyday with food.
When I bring home babies I dip their beaks in each.

They do make a mess of the food.

They do have food and water, I just ended up sprinkling food on a paper towel and they went at it. They still have their feeder also. I adjusted their heat lamp and they calmed down and went to sleep so I do think it was too cold. Thanks for the help!

Oh and their temp is now about 93

Sounds great. As long as they can get in and out of the heat as they need to, they should be fine. Have fun!

Yup! They have a big box for the two of them and I have the lamp only on one side. They are doing great this morning and have even started eating from their feeder
