I have nigerians. Mine would never come home if I let them out. I also would feel terrible when they go to the neighbors and eat their garden..........

What we did was keep them in an enclosure for a couple of weeks and we fed them consistently with hay, grain and treats like oatmeal cookies. Lots of petting and loving. My goats are dairy goats so we were out there milking a couple times a day and really made pets out of them. Now they wander around at will though not necessarily because we want them to and they never leave the property. They don't want to get too far away because they might miss their cookies!!!

Oatmeal cookies! I'll have to make a batch. That'll be a good treat for the kids to feed them.

Today is the day! I feel like calling the lady now and telling her to get up and meet me now. lol

Pics later. I'm so excited.

Got my goats!!

The first was sold as a Pygmy. It's a 4 year old doe named Ginger. I call her Trouble, as that's all she's been since she got here.

The second is Oreo, sold as a dwarf Nigerian. Also a doe, and much, much sweeter and calm than the other. LOL The kids LOVE her and she seems to love the kids.

It seems that Ginger, AKA Trouble, is not adjusting well to being contained. She really just wants to free range, but I can't let them until they're a bit more familiar with us and our place. She got off her collar yesterday and gave us a heck of a time. She finally ran down into one of our runs and we got her there. It was chaotic. She clearly is terrified of dogs, as well. The puppy caused MAJOR drama, and our outside dogs, though they could care less about her, are causing her intense stress. She just stares and stares at the dogs.

I've tried offering treats, etc., but she's just having no parts of it. The dwarf, Oreo, is happily munching away at her surroundings and could apparently care less about anything. She loves her head scratched, too.

I'm a novice to goats, so I don't know much to do for Trouble, other than give her space and let her adjust.

We raised two bottle babies from the sale barn. No one was bidding and I hated to think what might happen if they went back (male cast offs from an Amish dairy). They were very sweet for a while, but one quickly turned into trouble, and we had a heck of a time with him. Even with daily attention and treats, he was just a turd. It seems that is just their personality sometimes, although I'm sure with hard work, you can make tons of improvements. We chained ours for an hour or two in the morning and in the evening to take care of any overgrown weeds that were hard to mow and they did a wonderful job, just keep them away from any trees that you don't want destroyed. The rest of the time they spent in the pasture or in the house (ugh, silly kids). They were wonderful escape artists, but they stayed close to the pasture or came immediately to the house, and we live on a very busy road.

Congratulations!

They certainly are cute. I'm not sure about the first one (Trouble) being pygmy...her coloring is more consistant with nigerian than pygmy, but anything's possible.

Give her plenty of time. She seems to be one of those that is going to take a while to get used to you. Hopefully, with time and attention she'll learn that you're not there to harm her and she'll calm down.
