Got my new tortoise!

I got hooked up for a new tortoise from Critter Camp in IL...the person finally called me and I am the proud owner of another Russian Tortoise! I am so excited...he is a little larger than my original boy Stuart. He needs to have his beak trimmed and I will attempt that tomorrow. I am keeping them separate for now until I can get Manny checked for worms etc...the quarantine for them is much longer than for chickens! Terri O in WI

Is that because their bugs move as slow as they do? lol. I'm jealous! I have wanted a tortoise forever.....someday.

I keep tortoises as well. Mine are gopher tortoises. I don't have to feed them or care for them in any way. They're totally free range. I haven't done a count recently so I'm not sure how many I've got just now. They come and go as they please. We think of them as one of our house kami.

Very interesting links Alan! I had no idea that the Gophers made such long burrows! I sure hope that Stuart isnt that far down...I will NEVER see him again! (I still have not found him...) Manny will get his beak trimmed tonight--found a tutorial on it using a dremel tool. Doesnt sound nearly as hard as crop surgery!

The same rescue asked me to take 2 Sulcata Tortoises...no room, no heat for the winter and my life is not long enough! I might be tempted if I lived in AZ though! You are lucky that you have them "stopping in" at your place! Are there ones that you can identify or are they like the squirrels here? They come and go but most look totally the same!

I have always wanted a tortoise too Skyesrocket and now I have two! (well, I will when I find Stuart again) Keep the faith and perhaps you will get one! The only other thing I REALLY want is a Yellow Naped Parrot...then I can rest...unless I see a cute chicken that is!
