She doesn't seem too thrilled and the ducklings are peeping their heads off... Just checked and they are quite, and 5 ducklings are under her and 3 beside her. She was biting them earlier, but they were going crazy. She goes after me like they are her own. Is this good?? I'm nervous to leave them out there all night.. I should have known it would'nt have been as easy as I thought.

Really I need help here. I don't want to risk leaving them out there over night. Just checked again and she is sort of standing up but NONE of them are under her and they seem veryscared again. I'd hate to wake up to a mess...

Personally, I would take them in. There may be too many for her to take care of, especially if she is a first time mom. How is the weather by you? They need to be warm, especially for the first 2 weeks. I tried something similar with my crested pekin and she wouldn't cooperate. If it were the summer and warmer out, I wouldn't be so worried. Maybe try again from very early to dusk, and see if she accepts them. Hope all turns out well!

This same hen raised 27 ducklings at once last year. She hatched 19 and stole 8 from a much younger hen that didn't really know what to do. There are only 8. This morning they were all snuggled up under her!

So now I need to get her to let me get them to the ground so they can start eating and drinking. I gave them all a drink of water last night. Looks like it may work out after all!!
