My girls turned 19 weeks old yesterday. I have 2 each of Barred Rocks, Buff Orpingtons, Black Australorps and EE's.

I went out this evening to give them some leftover from dinner for a treat. I was in there giving them the food and I saw an egg on the ground !

It was a little pale green egg, so I know one of the EE's laid it. This was surprising to me since all my other breeds are supposed to be better layers. I did not expect an EE to be the first to lay an egg.

Earlier this afternoon, I was out there and one of the EE's was in the little house thing they have scratching about in the hay. They normally don't do that , especially that time of day. I wondered if she was looking for a place to lay, but I figured it would still be a while.

Also one of the EE's (not sure if it was the same one) was acting oddly and flew up onto the bar on the gate of the coop. Very odd, they don't usually do that. And, she snapped at one my Black Australorps in a very cranky manner. Very irritable. They normally all get along fine. I wonder if she was acting oddly because she was getting ready to lay her first egg.

Anyway, I am very happy.

Double congrats because EEs (at least the ones I've had) usually lay kind of late in comparison to the other breeds you have. Good for you!

Yippee acountrychick! My first egg experience a week ago was just the same as yours - one of my 2 EEs was the first to lay - I very green egg on the ground next to the pop door. Since then several of my other clucks have begun laying, but I'm yet to find another green egg. It's fun!
