So a few months ago I posted an intro. Well we finally got our starter flock. There's a bit of an age difference here, but it seems to be working out ok so far. They are all between 8 and 16 weeks old I think the youngest may be a little older than that, but things went so fast I can't remember exactly now. I'm sure the two guys we got them from at the farmer's market today saw us coming! In order of age: 1 barred rock cockerel, 4 Rhode Island red pullets (same age as br cockrel), 1 barred rock pullet (just 2-4 weeks behind the others), 1 red game cockerel and three red game hens. I meant to start with one roo and three hens, but the others were cheap and we have room for 40 birds...so... Like I said...they saw us coming!

Congratulations!!! I was excited to start my flock a couple of months ago! I've got to work on a roo, but we've got ten hens. My LO thinks it's funny when we "put them to bed" at night, to say We have ten hens in our pen. lol

Congratulations! We live in Baker too

. I had chickens and goats years ago in Georgia and then life intervened. Now kids (human) are grown and out so I'm in process of converting part of our stable into a coop and attached yard. As with all in life, saying it is simple...accomplishing something else! I hope to be able to get flock by end of August or early September. Did you go to the swap at Wootens? I haven't been yet but thought I might give it a try. I'm facinated by the greenfirefarms.com website and would love to consider some of their breeds, but I want to be sure my facilities are preditor proof before I start putting anything too expensive inside! I'd love to hear how you're making out. Feel free to private message if you'd like. Welcome to the area :). I have a son in Austin...I don't think it's as hot here as you're used to from San Antonio!
