Got the ceramic eggs, now what?

ok, i got teh fake ceramic egss for the chickens, now....

1) why do i need them?
2) when do i use them?
3) how do i use them?
4) when do i stop using them?

any advice?

I place one or two in the nest boxes to teach the hens where to lay. My newly laying hens are getting it right about 50% of the time right now, hoping as they get older and more used to laying they will get better about going in the nest.

I would use them as soon as you think your hens are close to laying

Stop using them when they are consistenly laying in the nests

Chickens see the fake eggs in the nest box, and realize this is a safe place to lay their eggs.

They also peck at them a bit, and learn that they aren't something to eat, which should transfer over to their own eggs.
