gotta chick question!

Would it be okay to let my 4 week old chicks run loose in the coop with my 7 week old chicks, and my 3 14 week old australorp hens? there's 21 of the 4 week olds, and 5 of the 7 week olds, and their coop is a 8x10.

Hi from Wisconsin, I don't know, big help , huh? Thirty years ago I raised chickens, ducks and geese and they were all in the same building and did fine. I guess I'd try it and be ready to scoop them up if they didn't get treated right. Good luck with them!

That coop will be big enough fo them now but probably not when they are grown.

It would be safest to put them together with something like chicken wire separating them for a week or two, to get them used to each other. When you do turn them loose al together, do it in the run or yard and offer some goot treats at the same time to distract them.

Best way to integrate new birds as adults is on the roost in the evening, but they are too small for that.

There will be some pecking and squabbling when you put them together. Just don't let it get bloody.

ok, I had them together in the coop seperated for almost a week, so far so good. We're fixin' to start building another coop (actually 2) in the next few weeks. 1 for our childrens japanese bantams, 11 in all! and another I figured as a bachlor pad for a few roo's. Mainly want my egg hens in the main coop with 1 rooster. I'll keep checking on them, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks Dawn!
