Greetings:
My Midget White turkey who is about 5 years old has been unable to walk for a week. He came out of the coop today for the first time. His right foot is bent completely back and is swollen. He is walking on the top of his foot. His legs have always been a bit gnarly.

He is eating and I have him on a low protein diet and given him meloxicam but running out of pills. Will move to aspirin soon. I am assuming he has gout but would very much welcome other opinions and experiences. I have also covered the leg with Vaseline for mites but other leg doesn't appear as bad so am going with gout or a stroke.

I would not treat with a low protein diet, but keep him on a regular balanced gamebird feed. I doubt that he has gout, and gout is usually not treatable anyway, once the damage is done. To me it looks more like riboflavin (vitamin B2 ) deficiency, but it also could be from an injury. I would give him 1/2 a vitamin B complex tablet crushed into his food daily, and that contains plenty of riboflavin and other B vitamins.

OK. Thanks. I'll get him some immediately. I have mixed in his regular feed with cracked corn to ensure he gets some nutrition and based on gout research in turkeys.
