Hello. I believe one of my hens, Freckles, has gout in both feet. At first I thought it was bumblefoot, and soaked her feet in some epsom salt to try to get the infection out, but there was no infection to take out. I later found out that it could possible be gout. After the epsom salt the next day, it seemed to help her walk around and heal the pain, but I don't think it was permanent. Can someone help me find a way to help her. She is an older chicken and I wouldn't feel absolutely awful putting her down, but I want to make sure I can do everything I can before that.

Gout usually occurs in older birds over a period of time due to several reasons; not drinking enough water, too much protein in the diet, too much calcium in the diet, maybe a vitamin A deficiency.
Warm water soaks ease the pain, but it's only temporary. There's not much you can do except cut back on protein and calcium if that's the case. Gout doesnt go away over night, it'll be with her for the long term. It's best to provide comfort care.

Hi there ..
I can suggest some of my personal experience with the same issue with a friend whose roosters significantly improved .

Gout is mainly the thing when Uric Acid started to increase in the percentage and collect in joints .
Same as humans but in chickens they get alot of pain and discomfort .

If you google search or ask a vet there's no specific treatment with Medicine .

But there are treatment you can follow with herbs which is 100% safe and effective.

The first thing is to reduce the treats that increase uric acid a balance diet .

• add apple cider vinegar in water weekly it helps to clear the uric acid from the joints and bones also from the kidneys

Start adding some of the herbs I'm mentioning

• Fennel Seed Tea
(Excellent Home Remedy For Gout)

• Moringa / Drumsticks Plant Tablet
Moringa Or Drumsticks is a Master Remedy for Joints and have anti-inflammatory properties plus it help joints to gain power and cure the issue .

You can give a tiny split tablet to every 5 days or weekly it help alot it also a great Protien for chickens and hens .

Thanks
Hope this help!
