GQF incubator and egg holder questions.

Good Afternoon everyone! I'm new to BYC and need some advice. I've got a friend who had a farm and gave me a GQF sportsman incubator. I've got my eggs out of my stock some lavender Orpingtons, Americanas,Campiness and some austrolorps. I've got them all in egg crates and seems to be doing good. My question....is egg crates good to set in? What do you guys use ? Also does anyone here have a sportsman and when you get to lockdown do you move to bottom basket of incubator to hatch. The best advice comes from experience and I see lots of baby chicks. Any help or advice would be great!

thats fine to hold them in as long as you remember to rotate them throughout the day.
