Gracie learns to work the target

That is pretty neat she can do that....what is the purpose though? Is it necessary in show/or some competition or you just teaching her cause you want to. Also how does she know when to use her nose or paw. I don't hear you say anything in regards to that.

She sure knows where the treats are to huh

Gracie!

Thats wonderful. My doxie jojo is partially blind and has very limited hearing so shes trained using ASL (American Sign Language). Shes only 9 months old and knows about 6 different signs lol. I dont say a word just have to get close enough for her to see my hands, and if I want her to come to me and she too far a way to see me I just stomp my foot in repetion of three and she'll come with no problem. Your pup is wonderful and beautiful.

She has not been put on a verbal command yet for any of the behaviors.

The target or touch behavior can be used to teach the dog MANY tasks, including picking up and bringing or carrying any object, where heel position or front position is for competition obedience, go outs for competition obedience, to put the feet up to get on a grooming table or in the car, to shake, the possibilities are endless.

It is just a starting point really for more advanced training.

Once she is presenting these behaviors more reliably, I will start giving them a name.

How did she know to switch from touching to stepping in the video? Something she seen you do maybe? I see so no hope in teaching my puppy to shake now....I have been wondering how to do it I have just been saying it and picking her foot up and giving her a treat I thinking eventually she will catch on to what I want?
