Graduation party questions

OK, that time again. Last time it was, we had a lot more money; didn't pay much attention to what or how much we spent on people, but we ended up spending a lot because here, it's the thing to have a graduation party and invite everyone you know. But this year is different, we're much poorer. Does anyone know of a basic rule as to what or how much to give for: neighbor's kid (we're invited to his big party); my friend's daughter (who I have never met), we're invited to her party; band director leaving the district, needs a group present, and so on. (Feels like Christmas all over again

Not sure... for graduation from the university, we're just all pitching in to a big fire outside with smores and burgers. No big dollar gifts that will probably be lost and set down to be forgotten. We all did the same for HS graduation. I figure it's the good times with friends and family that count rather than material goods.
