Grafting babies to a broody hen?

I have bantams. It works. Just slide them under in the dark. I think for the best due it in the dark good Luck Tony

Yeah, its pretty easy, just keep an eye on her for a few days. After over a month of trying to break the broody, I gave her a chick and just tossed it under her during the night and all was good.

mudhen, was your hen broody? Does the hen have to be broody in order to give her chicks?

Hens that are not broody are not very likely to take in hatched chicks. It can even be a problem if they haven't been broody long enough, their instinct is to continue sitting on unhatched eggs even if there are none or you removed them.

The one that I have that will adopt anything that's a baby is not all that common, so if you end up with one treat her like the Queen she is because she'll save your bacon more than once.

My brother in law does it everytime one of his hens goes broody. He moves her to a low nesting box and for two or three maybe four days he will add babies at night till she has about 20.
