This is the best forum online for "talking chicken" (and although I may appear to be biased, you'll soon agree, I'm sure!)

Hi, I am also in grand junction. Got my first set (3) of chicks around the same time. (April 7th) I of course have been back to Murdoch's and bought more. so now I have more then enough but pretty sure I ended up with a few roosters. anyway I just wanted to say HI

I see that this thread is fairly old, but maybe its a good place to introduce myself. I moved to Grand Junction a couple years ago and finally got settled in enough to restart our flock this spring. It was kind of a bumpy start.

I'd be interested to know who is nearby? What sort of chickens are you keeping?

Currently I have a couple barred rocks, 2 easter egger bantams, australorp, blue splash marans, and RI reds. Our order this spring also included 2 cochin, but they were both roosters (2 of the 4 we got in our order of 11 chicks), so they are no longer with us.

I have kept other varieties in the past. Do Wyandottes do well here, or is it too hot?

Cheers

Hello there, and welcome to Backyard chickens! I have Wyandottes, but then, I am not in CO. But Wyandottes are a very good and cold hardy breed, so I would think they do well. I also suggest you check out this page: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/68894/colorado. I hope you enjoy BYC!
