grandfather clause work, we added to house now yard smaller

I agree that the code says 50' from all dwellings, but they are unlikely to cite you if the dwelling is your own.

By all means call & ask--your code is actually very generous compared with most.

I assume that you purchase your feed? Ask there about people who have chickens; post a sign on their bulletin board asking for help changing zoning.

Most of the time if you are a good neighbor, your neighbors will be also. There are certainly a few out there who aren't, but they are the exception. You don't usually hear GOOD neighbor stories, becasue there is nothing to tell: no "help me figure out how to deal with xyz," no venting.

sorry, didn't get the "xyz" thing, guess i am slow.

Fifty feet is pretty large but its better than nothing yes.

I'm in Manila across the bay and right in-between Arcata and Eureka. I think I'm technically in county territory and I've lived in the area a dozen years.

This place is pretty rural and accepting of livestock in general. Not to mention that the county like most others is broke right now. They are not going to be sending out anyone to see if you're keeping a couple of chickens. UNLESS your neighbors complain. Then some thing might happen but I doubt there would e fines. They would probably would just make you get rid of them.

Really just do it. If someone knocks on the door tell them they just flew in from some other yard. If your neighbors are cool with it I think the city will be too.

Good luck!!!

I don't quite understand why you would approach the city about chickens if you already have them and your neighbors are OK with it. Seems to me you are putting them in the position of having to enforce the code. With no complaints, they can look the other way. Unless I misread something here.
