So I've been raising birds since i was 13, known i wanted to work with livestock since i was 4 (now 21), and went to community college for 1 semester for livestock managment. Now my predicament so I was in a horrific car accident when I was 14 and have a head injury as a result I tend to have some problems with short term memory and tend to not be fast enough for any of the jobs around here, other than that I do ok in day to day life, I also have a slightly short atention span (i was diagnosed with adhd at age 4). Now there is a program through the SRS that helps disabled young people "find their niche" wether it be helping start a small business or find a job they like and keeping it. So I told them I would like to start my own business after thinking long and hard about it I said I want to breed and raise fancy poultry full time time to sell at my local Poultry and Exotics Auctions so they give me a list of figures I would need to give them to start a Poulty Proccessing Business now to me that sounds more like a chicken slaughter plant not at all what i want to do. so i correct them once. them i get another call from my case worker saying that she just spoke with a gentlemen from the Dept. of Ag. and said each of my birds would need an NPIP SHOT annually

So I call my state NPIP director call her back and correct once again She had directed me to a small business specialest free service though the state to help me right a business plan. He gives me a guide as to what it needs to contain and says i'll see you in 9 days to help you make up a financial projection. so I figure and wright for 2 hours a night over those 9 days the day before i'm suppose to meet with him my case worker calls me back and says she has more info and figure requirments that she needs

ok i'll stop by after my other appointment. So I go to my first appointment and this guy put some numbers in his spread sheet and a said "your profits are to low the first year just right the second year and great the third year" wrong figures all the way through... his mind was else where and I wasn't in the mood to argue. Then my case worker, most of the info matched up so that was good, she wanted a copy of the wrong finacial projection which I reluctantly gave her and she tells me that I need to find another resource for funds for land, this was a major blow to my hope of any speed at all in this process. Will up date as it goes on comments suggestions and encoragment are greatly appriciated.

I know this is not what you want to hear, but most successful businesses start small and slowly build up. Why not invest in a few SQ chickens that you can raise in your current space (maybe 1 or 2 breeds) Any proceeds from these chickens need to be re-invested into your flock, and some set aside for a down payment on your land. This method may take several years, but it would allow you to build up not only your client list, but also your bloodlines allowing you to be a more successful breeder of high quality chickens.

I would be more than happy to do this if I had any land at all. Right now I'm stuck back at my dads house living in his basement thanks to another local slumlord. And lost my full time job and stuck working part for $100 a week ut and still have bills and a boot out date of july 3rd. I do have a hovabater and 9 guinea eggs about half done. Most local birds just arn't bringing in much I have every one of these sold to my wifes aunt for 2.50 ea. But I havn't had every good luck with this breeders eggs got them for free though so i can't complain to much. Livestock zoning in my area is black and white and anything under 10 acres is hard to come by. Trying my hardest to find and get funds to buy 5 or 6 with a house. priced start up after that at 6000 + truck and trailer. wish I was fortunate enough to have the resources to ease into the market. Untill then I guess i'll just hatch small clutches when I can. (I can ussually get away with keeping birds until about 5 or 6 weeks old then selling)
