Our girlsare just over a week old.......say about 11 days old.......is it too early to introduce them to cut up grapes, and if not, do I need to add some grit? They've been on medicated chick feed since day one...

thanks for the help

Thank you. Maybe ill stay away from the grapes for now and shoot for the other treats that don't require grit. Yogurt, just a plain yogurt?

Thank you...will try the plain yogurt and scrambled eggs. And, we just colored a dozen hard boiled eggs tonight for the easter bunny tomorrow.....I'm sure we will be able to do without a few

Thanks again...I'll hold off on the grapes for now.

I feed treats to mine from a few days old onward, because I don't want them to get reliant on a commercial feed...we don't feed our adult birds very much commercial feed, mostly whatever they can find on their own free-ranging, and some food scraps from the kitchen. I want the chicks to know how to forage. So I offer them finely chopped fruits and vegetables, and also a dish of fine gravel from my driveway for grit. Grapes are one of their favorites, as are orange halves and shredded cabbage and a little scratch feed. They get one bowl of that kind of food and one bowl of chick starter whenever I fill their dishes.

I had heard you're not supposed to feed chickens grapes or raisins? Can't remember why....

Mine have been getting tomato and spinach (as well as egg) since about day 3 and are doing fine. No pasty butt or anything. I do sprinkle the tomato with grit and they don't get a lot, just enough for them to chase each other around after. There are 14 of them and I never give them more than maybe 2 or 3 Tbs of treat depending on what it is.
