Almost 2 year old Leghorn has been slowly getting worse. Poopy butt. Meaning nasty, unkempt, smelly runny diarrhea hanging on the feathers. Today was green. Green, I've found, is the warning sign that bad things are happening.

Palpation of the abdomen showed a large, unmoving lump. I was thinking egg bound. When second lump appeared this week, decision was made. This is in addition to poopy butt. Egg bound has a couple of remedies. Tried the gentle massages. When I could catch her. Lately, she stayed in the nest box including sleeping there for the last 2 nights.

By the way, if you do this, be prepared for the putrescence. Smell was vile.
@Texas Kiki how do you do the hide picture thing?

Another bit of sad news, Headley, I think, dropped dead last night. Not able to examine due to fire ants, so into the freezer she went.

8 Ideal birds, 4 Leghorns and 4 Ideal 236, joined us 2.5 years ago. 4 remain. 2 with confirmed lash eggs. 1 buried without opening, but strongly suspect lash egg. And today. Since most have black speckles, not able to differentiate the stock. I lumped them all together.

Will confirm it is Headley. I rushed off to work thinking it is her. May be #2. What most concerns me is that another was looking poorly. Watching her.

The last 2 happened at molting time also. Interesting timing, but the system does change.
