That is the worst thing I have ever seen! How awful for you and your poor chicken! I am with MysticScorpio82. Whatever the darn thing is, it is getting in by pushing a board or some otherwise hidden spot. Good luck getting the culprit tonight!

OMG that is horrible. It must of been terrible seeing one of your hens in such a state.
I'm sorry i cant really add any input to what might of done this, i live in England so have never experienced or heard of anything like this before. I really hope you manage to find the culprit soon, if you do please will you post what it was. Good luck x

Seeing that reminds me of a bird the wife put in a rabbit Hutch that didn't have any legs. Coon came up and reached in grabbed the bird ate its face off. Is there anywhere that maybe the Coon could reach but still not get in? I would be looking for any smaller holes at this point. Racoons are nasty little buggers that kill for sport and food. If a Coon can fit its head in a spot it will get in. Trust me on this I found out the hard way. If you can get a live trap I would suggest it and then shoot it in yw cage. For all of you that relocate, I shoot because it is more humane than dropping it off somewhere in some other coons territory and it having to fight and maybe die slower. That is just what I would do. For my live trap I usually put out boiled eggs in it. They seem to love em.
