GRAPHIC PICS of my day learning to caponize

Merry Christmas Eve

I've had several requests for Chinese capon tools sets, so I will be ordering again on January 15th. If you would like to order tools or a disinfecting box, please send me a PM.
The double set has two sizes: Rooster size and chick size.
This single set has a round blade and works for chicks and older birds.
The boxes are aluminum and are approximately 7 1/2" X 3 1/2" X 2"

I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

How do you use the disinfecting boxes? What do you disinfect with?

My challenge is to grip/dislodge the testicle. What procedure and tool do others do/use? I have the kit and some added instruments.

During surgery, hydrogen peroxide in the box keeps them moist and prevents blood from drying on them. You need to wipe the peroxide off the tool before using it to prevent foaming, especially if the tool enters the body cavity. To thoroughly disinfect, I use Betadyne solution in the box, soak, scrub, soak, and then rinse. Bleach and water works well. I've boiled tools after soaking in Betadyne, and that seems to get them really clean. Remember to dry your tools thoroughly before storing them (the box works for storage too).

I use the wire tool, which is a metal probe with a hole at one end. Capon wire is tied through the hole, the capon wire is wrapped around the testicle, and a gentle sawing motion removes the testicle.

Is this wire tool similar to the straw and fishing line? I have not been able to get the straw and fish line to wrap around the testicle. Maybe I need stronger fish line? Do you have a picture of the probe with the capon wire?

From the second pic that Poco Pollo posted, the tool in the middle. I found the jaws were just the right size to go over an under the testes then press together and pull out. I was not able to get the probe and string to work either.

The tool on the left with the flat paddle end and a hole in the other end is the wire tool. The paddle is used for moving the intestines away from the testes. Capon wire is tied through the hole at the opposite end. The wired end is then inserted next to the testicle while holding the wire in the left hand. The probe end is moved under and forward to direct the capon wire around the testicle. Bringing the probe end just past the wire, to make a loop around the testicle, the wire can be used as a saw to remove the testicle. Practice makes this tool work. Practice, practice, practice.

For a testicle that is attached at both ends, the attaching membrane can be carefully cut and the wire tool used. Some have more success using the jaws to hold onto the testicle as WalkingWolf1 stated.

What wire do you use? My set came with a small spool of sewing thread but thread is virtually useless. Once it gets inside the body cavity the thread sticks to everything it touches. The concept is right but not with string.

I ordered the smallest wire available from Hobby Lobby, which I believe is 28 gauge jewelry. They also have 26 gauge that I have used as well. You just have to make sure the sharp end of the wire attached to your instrument is far enough away from the end of the instrument so that there is no risk of it accidentally puncturing something down in the abdominal cavity. It can be wrapped around your instrument up toward the end you hold.
